UNIQUE IRISH BOG OAK SCULPTURE
1982 Eire Penny Harp
ANCIENT WOOD HANDCRAFTED IN THE IRISH MIDLANDS
Bog Oak was known as King of the forest for its strength and longevity, & was considered sacred to the ancient Celts
Height : approx. 5 inches, 13 cm including hardwood mount

Non-toxic oil finish to seal the wood and enhance its natural colour

Irish Bog timber comes from the ancient forests that once covered the whole of Ireland.
Enormous oaks and yew trees were  buried in Irish peat bogs and preserved from decay by the acidic and anaerobic bog conditions, sometimes for hundreds or even thousands of years.
The wood is stained by tannin dissolved in the acidic water (black for the oak and a lovely brown for the yew).
Irish Bogwood is a rare form of timber that is claimed to be comparable to some of the world’s most expensive tropical hardwoods.
This sculpture is made of Ancient Irish Oak and has been preserved for anywhere between 6000/7000 years in the peat bogs of Ireland
