Irish Bog timber comes from the ancient forests that once covered the whole of Ireland. Enormous oaks and yew trees are buried in Irish peat bogs and preserved from decay by the acidic and anaerobic bog conditions, sometimes for hundreds or even thousands of years.

The wood is stained by tannin dissolved in the acidic water (black for the oak and a lovely brown for the yew). Irish Bogwood is a rare form of timber that is claimed to be comparable to some of the world’s most expensive tropical hardwoods.This pendant is made of  Ancient Irish Oak has been preserved for anywhere between 6000/7000 years in the peat bogs of County Offaly in Ireland.
