This traditional but unusual wooden Cruise Chair was manufactured by the highly respected Southsea Deckchair Company located near Portsmouth; they are still a significant supplier of deckchairs and you can visit their website. These types of cruise chairs were popular on some cruise ships of a previous era, it folds flat length 132 cm. The item was supplied circa 18 years ago but has only been used indoors and is in excellent condition. There is no warping. The timber is probably Merpauh. The height of the occupant in the photos is circa 5' 6" (1.65m). The chair feet spread is 65 cm. Weight is 15 kg.

A sort of comparison could be made with the Southsea Sauna Chair which currently sells at £168 but this Cruise Chair is a significantly superior product. It is larger, heavier, arguably more comfortable but due to the weight, shape & slightly awkward folding and storage issue more restrictive to move. The folding mechanism is still perfect. It would go well in a suitably sized conservatory; the design is timeless and would be enjoyed as both a piece of feature furniture and relaxing seat. It is surprisingly comfortable to recline on, everyone will want to try it. It's a feature for conversation! If still manufactured it would probably sell new for something up to £300. I am disposing of this only because we moved and no longer have a suitable room with sufficient space to use it in, neither do my family, it was previously situated in a moderately used but spacious "quiet" room at comfortable temperatures. It has never been stored in an outdoor building or garage.

It is for sale by collection only - due to the slightly awkward shape and necessary packaging required, risk of damage and weight. I would be prepared to travel a modest distance if needs be to an exchange point. It has been much loved but with limited use and a new home would mean that this splendid piece can be enjoyed by someone else.
