PURPOSE. The Astronomical Journal publishes original observations and researches in all branches of astronomy.
EDITORIAL BOARD. The editors, assistant editor, and four associate editors are appointed by the Council of the American Astronomical Society: in addition, one associate editor is appointed by the Directors of the Gould Fund.
PUBLICATION IS at the rate of one volume of 12 issues, one each month. A title page, table of contents, and index are included in the December issue.
MANUSCRIPTS should be addressed to the Editors, Astro- nomical Journal, Department of Astronomy, Columbia Uni- versity,  New York, New York 10027. They should be typewritten with double spacing, and must include a brief abstract that states clearly the principal con-
clusions of the article. Two copies of the manuscript are
required. Style should follow the system used in recent issues of the Journal. References in text should show author (date); in the reference page, author (date), journal abbreviation, volume, and page number.
PERMISSION TO QUOTE from this Journal should be requested of the Editor.
Figures should, whenever practicable, be planned for re-
production in one-column width (7.5 cm). Line drawings
should be india ink on white paper or tracing cloth. The
original drawing or, preferably, a high-quality 8" X 10"
glossy print should be submitted. To facilitate mailing and
handling, original drawings should not exceed 22 by 28 cm in
size. Lettering, drawn with a mechanical set, should be of
size so that when reduced the smallest lower-case letters will not be less than about 1.5 mm. Avoid gross disparities in lettering size on a drawing.
Tabular material intended for photographic reproduction should be of the highest quality. Lettering should be as black as possible.
