Mutiso (David) MasakuOrigin: Kenya, Africa Performance: Wood & Stone Carver "Carving out a whole new experience!" Mutiso Masaku was born in a village in Kenya where all men are wood and kisii stone carvers. By the young age of 15, he had begun to create his own carvings. After being discovered by a German entrepreneur in Nairobi, Kenya in 1964, he moved to Germany where he produced his carvings commercially. He then had the wonderful opportunity to spend the next 23 years traveling throughout Europe, carving his wooden animals, people and masks. Following the village tradition, Masaku uses only three carving knives for all his work, and you will be truly amazed - he needs no models; he carves from memory! Watching him is just as educational as it is entertaining - he is the best of the best at what he does. Masaku was specially commissioned to carve the crowning ornament for the White House Christmas tree under the Clinton administration.
