Titanium Silver Clio 182 FF (Great Dunmow, Essex) £4250

I purchased this Clio 182 in April 2016 as a fun project to get back into cars again. The outside and interior was tidy but the mechanicals needed a little attention / refreshing.

I've put around 10,000 road miles on the car since I've had it. It’s not been on a track during my ownership.

I have put in hundreds of hours on the car and have spent £4200 just in parts (no labour) as I worked my way through it.

The timing belt, dephaser, water pump, auxiliary belt and tensioner were replaced in 2016. Both camshaft oil seals were also replaced along with the front and rear crankshaft oil seals, the clutch and the front anti-rollbar inner and outer bushes.

The timing belt, auxiliary belt and tensioner were replaced again in December 2021. The alternator was rebuilt at the same time (bearings, slip rings and brushes), the power steering pump was replaced with a refurbished unit and a new crank harmonic pulley was fitted. I have the correct timing tools to change the timing belt and have pictures / video of the last change so you can see it's correctly tensioned and timed.

I replaced all of the bearings and oil seals in the gearbox in June 2018 as the selector shaft was leaking oil and the gearbox had to be split to replace the seal.

The sump gasket has been replaced twice and the rear main bearing cap was removed, cleaned and resealed in 2018, due to a slight oil leak, at the same time as the gearbox was out.

The front end was refreshed in 2016 with new OE cup shocks, top mounts and eibach pro kit springs replacing (all round) the APEX springs that were too low and crashy for me. New front wheel bearings, disks and pads, ball joints and driveshafts were also fitted.

The front brakes were refreshed again with new disks, pads and rebuilt calipers (new seal kit) at the end of 2019 / beginning of 2020.

The rear end was refreshed at the end of 2019 / beginning of 2020. This included sandblasting and hot zinc spraying the rear beam. The petrol tank was removed. The underside was stripped back, rust treated and sealed. Behind the petrol filler flap there was a local repair made to replace some metal and repaint it. It’s not perfect but is presentable and has held back the rust. New rear disks, wheel bearings, pads, braided brake lines along the beam, ABS sensors and handbrake cables were fitted. Standard new brake flexis were fitted between the beam and the car. I have pictures of this work.

The side skirts were removed so the sills could be cleaned and protected. They are both solid. I also removed the rear passenger side panels to inspect the inside of the sills and they are good. The jacking points were a little flattened. I have straightened these out and strengthened them with additional metal.

Various sensors have been changed including MAP, Lambda, Coolant Temp, Oil Pressure, Crankshaft and Knock sensor.

A new starter motor was fitted in 2017 as the existing unit was intermittently not working.

New aerial base unit fitted in 2020 as the reception went bad on the radio, which is the factory original (not an aftermarket head unit).

The front seat belts were removed and cleaned in 2020 so they are much more presentable now.

I’ve changed the engine oil and filter four times since I’ve owned the car. The last oil service was
01 April 2024 to make it ready for sale. The underneath of the engine and gearbox was bone dry - no oil leaks anywhere - driveshafts, gear selector seal, gearbox and engine sump all checked.

The fuel injectors, coil pack, HT leads and inlet manifold gaskets have also all been replaced at some point over the last 8 years - some of them more than once.

All four tyres have plenty of tread left. The fronts are Hankook Ventus V12 Evo 2. The rears are budget tyres but they still have tread left so I’ve not changed them yet. There are two new Hankook Ventus V12 Evo 2 tyres that I’ve never fitted and will come with the car.

The car has the original tyre foam repair aerosols, the jack, wheel brace, towing eye and locking wheel nuts. I replaced all of the wheel bolts shortly after I purchased the car in 2016 as they were old and worn.

Everything works but the air conditioning is not very cold. It’s never worried me enough to get it re-gassed. There are no fault or warning lights displayed on the dashboard. The troublesome connectors under the seats that cause the airbag light to come on were sorted just after I got the car and the light has not appeared since.

The car has a scorpion cat back exhaust system that was already fitted. It has powerflex rear hangers and has had a new downpipe clamp / seal kit fitted so it doesn't blow. The exhaust manifold flange is rusty as usual but it’s sealed. The car is fitted with an aftermarket cat.

The dogbone lower engine steady has poly bushes fitted. The gearbox upper mount and the top engine mount have been replaced with new standard OEM equivalent items.

The wheels have been refurbished as have the headlights. The headlight washers have been replaced and work fine without leaking so the washer bottle does not need to be constantly topped up.

A new battery was fitted in 2020.

I removed all of the alarm hardware and sensors as it was a nuisance and kept going off. This was done neatly and correctly (I am a Chartered Electrical Engineer). I removed the dashboard to access the wiring.

The plastic undertray for the engine is present and the captive nuts in the subframe are all good. The arch liners are all present (these are very difficult to source now for mk2 clios).

All of the work is listed in a spreadsheet in chronological order with a reference to the receipt. Most of the receipts are electronic and will be provided on a usb memory stick to the buyer, along with any pictures I have taken of work done to the car.

There is a bundle of previous receipts before I purchased the car and the service booklet has 5 service stamps taking it up to 58k miles.

The car had an exchange cylinder head fitted by a previous owner in 2014 (presumably the timing belt snapped) along with a new timing belt. The receipt for over £1000 is with the documentation. The only issue I've had was the dephaser solenoid leaking a little oil but since I replaced the seal it's been fine. There have been no head gasket related issues during my ownership.

The car is running the standard factory map.

There are some spares to come with the car:

There are a few scuffs on the rear bumper. The front lip of the bonnet on the driver’s side had some rust treatment with new sealant applied and painted over. There are some paint chips on the very edge of the lip in this area. The paint on the driver’s door bullet is a little thin at the top – I’m not sure if it’s been replaced previously. Overall, the bodywork and paint are tidy. The car polishes up to be very presentable but it’s 20 years old so don’t expect it to be mint.

I’ve enjoyed working on and learning about this car but it’s just not being used now. I also have a Mk3 Clio RS200 as my daily while the 182 is kept in the garage. It’s not economical to run both cars so the 182 is for sale. I will be driving for any test drives.

Serious enquiries welcome. I have more photos if required.
