The Mille Miglia, which translates to ‘Thousand Miles’ in English, was an Italian open-road motor race staged annually from 1927 to 1957. The race spanned a distance of approximately 1,000 miles; the route travelled from Brescia to Rome and back, passing through picturesque landscapes and treacherous roads. The race quickly gained a reputation for being one of the most challenging and prestigious events in the motorsport world. It was revived as a classic event in 1982 and in 1988 Chopard decided to honour the spirit of the Mille Miglia by becoming its official timekeeper and sponsor. This partnership began a long and cherished relationship between Chopard and the legendary race which resulted in a collection of exquisite motorsport-inspired Swiss timepieces.

One of Chopard’s boldest Mille Miglia designs, this 2014 Gran Turismo XL has all the classic racing elements - Dunlop tyre-tread strap, dashboard instrument inspired dial, racing steering wheel screw-down crown and sapphire crystal exhibition case-back displaying its beautiful, engine-turned, officially certified, 24-jewel, self-winding, chronometer movement. Condition is excellent for a watch of this age, with hardly any signs of wear and only a few tiny dints and scratches visible under magnification. Power reserve and time-keeping are also excellent (still within COSC standards). It comes with its original presentation box, instruction manual, certificate of origin, and COSC chronometer certificate.

This superb, rarely worn, Chopard has been in my personal collection for several years and is only being sold to make way for new additions.
