This listing is for an exquisite copper "Nemuri Neko" (slumbering cat) sculpture with embossed floral designs and antique silver finish. It is hollow cast and almost certainly hand-carved. We know the material is copper due to the oxidation inside (see photos of bottom) and also areas on the front bottom where the dark silver finish has worn away. It smells of copper and does not respond to a neodymium magnet. To me, the piece has a dark charcoal gray appearance.

I believe this is from Japan and have only ever seen one other like it, listed at a place called Edith's Gallery. I corresponded with Ruth, who said their piece had already sold but she thinks it was a silver / alloy material.

The Nemuri-Neko cat sculpture is a beautiful and collectible piece, perfect for any cat lover or antique collector. Its unique design and intricate patterns make it a true work of art, originating from Japan. This one-of-a-kind item is sure to stand out in any collection.
