Description
Chinese Yuan Dynasty Black Glazed Well Dressed Pottery Male Servant Figurine
This listing is for a fine potted Chinese figure from the Yuan Dynasty. It is decorated in an unusual black glaze.
Made in the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), ie, about 800 years old!
About 10 1/2 inches tall
About 713 grams in weight
The base has been drilled for a thermoluminescence text sample, but unfortunately we do not have the certificate. It costs close to $1000 to get one of those tests done by the time you factor in shipping etc!
Good condition as shown. There appears to be some touch up in the black colour. It passes a black light examination, but on the rear upper back the black colour is slightly different in some places. This indicates the figure has had some restoration. There are 24 photos included with this listing, please look at all of them to see exactly what it looks like.
This figure was previously sold by Allen's Antiques of New Zealand (which is New Zealand's largest dealer in Chinese Antiques - their inventory label is attached to the back. Mr. Allen has kindly advised that he only sold genuine examples of this type.
This figure was then purchased by Dr. Joseph Nearing, who assembled the Dragon's Lair Collection of Chinese antiques. Dr. Nearing passed away in 2012. This item was purchased from his estate, and is now being offered on ebay.
