This is a near Full Year Set Of DANDY COMICS From 1940
The set consists of a run from No.110 (06/01/40) to N0.161 (28/12/40)
The Run is missing No.112 (20/01/40) & No.159 (14/12/40)
& 160 (21/12/40 - CHRISTMAS ISSUE)
Also No.126 (27/04/40) Which is in Very Poor Condition, missing the
cover and the first inside sheet.
The comics are generally clean and white with no signs of the "browning"
or "foxing" often found in comics of this
age.
Condition overall is very nice. They have been stored flat and dry.
I have graded them *VG, VG+ or variations.
My VG+ grade is severe and I know a number of dealers who would claim these VG+ comics are Fine/Mint
There are some small faults that are common to a number of comics, so I will use codes to indicate them.
"E" - EDGE - A number of the comic have a greater or
lesser degree of edge tears. These are small tears usually going 1/4" to
1/2" into the comic from the outer side edge in particular. A few of
these have been repaired very amateurishly using postage stamp edging strip.
With care this could be soaked off.
"W" - WRITING -
A number of comics have got a note written in block capitals across the top of
the comic with notes such as "The End of Cripple Charlie" (One of the
stories) These are mostly written in pencil, but the writer pressed down
quite hard and even after using a rubber the message is still easily visible in
a lot of cases.
PROPAGANDA Considering this was WW2 I was surprised NOT to find a lot of anti-German propaganda in these comics. The front cover story occasionally shows Korky in uniform and army "Capers" going on but they are not overtly Anti-Nazi. The main propaganda comes in a strip inside the comic called "Addie & Hermy" (Adolf Hitler and Hermann Goering) showing them as "Greedy Thickos" This strip is found in all the 1940 issues.
