This is a vintage ceramic cat in the style of Portuguese cats from the 18th century - it is signed but I have not been able to trace the origin of the signature and it does not resemble those of a lot of other similar looking cat ornaments in that it is not in English.

The cat appears to be decorated in an oriental style and is probably intended as an incense stick holder as there seems to be no way of opening it to use as a pomander or such. Others have suggested it could be a pen or flower holder but I wouldn't want to try using it as such.

Whatever it is and whoever made it, it is a nice little unusual cat ornament and it will look cool wherever and however it is used.

It measures approx. 5 1/2" (13cm) long by 5 1/2" (13.5cm) high by 4" (10cm) wide.

Please feel free to ask any questions about it.
