Staffordshire American Historical Dark Blue and White Transfer Toddy Plate, "America and Independence or States", "Three Story Mansion", by James and Ralph Clews, c. 1820 - 1835. This beautiful dark blue larger toddy plate is one of the most attractive of all of the Dark Blue Historical Staffordshire views. This plate has the names of the first fifteen states around the perimeter.  The plate has an insert of George Washington and America and Independence. This has the "Three Story Mansion" as the center transfer.  This plate is listed in "Historical Staffordshire An Illustrated Check-List" by David and Linda Arman, where an 10 1/2" plate booked for $195 -215, back in 1974. This example has a deep dark blue transfer with hardly a scratch to the surface.  Thisone is unmarked, but it is known to be a pattern produced by James and Ralph Clews.
