Description

Ono Chikkyo (1889-1979) studied under Takeuchi Seiho at the age of 14. He studied Japanese painting under notable students such as Hashimoto Kansetsu, Uemura Shoen, and Tsuchida Bakusen. He also took an interest in Western art, opened his eyes to color, and took on the challenge of revolutionizing Japanese painting by participating in the founding of the Kokuga Sosaku Kyokai. In the latter half of his life, he became a leading painter in the Kyoto art world, painting poetic landscapes of Japan, and was awarded the Order of Culture. This book was created with the full cooperation of the Kasaoka City Chikkyo Museum of Art, and carefully selected 100 main paintings and 50 drawings from his early years to his later years out of more than 1,700 works, created by Uezono, a leading expert on Ono Chikkyo. Along with Shiro's essays, it conveys his charm and painting skills. Includes an overview, 13 essays that convey Ono Chikkyo's painting work from various angles, and explanations for all works. This is a book that is worth seeing and reading.
