Giant Spiny Stick Insects (Eurycantha calcarata) x 4 Nymphs

This listing is for 4 nymphs (1st and 2nd instar) of Eurycantha calcarata, an impressive and bulky species of stick insect from Papua New Guinea. They were produced by large mated females and which have hatched over the past few weeks.

Easy to breed and to rear, they feed on Ivy, Bramble, Oak and Hawthorn and live happily in normal room temperature conditions. My females are especially large and very dark in colour. Typically around 15cm long and very chunky when fully grown and full of eggs!

A care sheet will be provided and there is plenty of care information readily available on the web (just google 'Eurycantha calcarata care'). The care sheet is also provided below:

Basic Care for the Giant Spiny Stick Insect (Eurycantha calcarata)

House your new pets in a plastic or glass tank with enough height for them to moult easily. For Eurycantha species this should be at least 24cm as they will need plenty of space when they shed their skins especially for their last moult. Place a few sheets of paper towel on the bottom of the tank to help keep it humid and make sure the temperature is kept between 18 and 26C.

Provide them with lengths of bramble or rose in a jar of water so that they have plenty of fresh leaves to eat and branches to moult from as they grow. Use a water sprayer to give the leaves a light misting of every few days. This is an active species of stick insect so take care when changing their food or cleaning them out.

The female can lay hundreds of eggs in her lifetime and uses her pointed abdomen (ovipositor) to bury her eggs into the ground. You will need to provide a box of sand or compost in the enclosure for her to lay her eggs into. The eggs will generally hatch within nine months if sprayed daily with water.
