Proetid Gerastos

Featured in this listing is a proetid trilobite of the gerastos genus, as seen in the photographs. The Gerastos trilobite, part of the Proetidae family, exemplifies the varied and durable trilobites that inhabited ancient oceans during the Devonian period, around 419 to 358 million years ago. Known for its compact, rounded body and intricately granular exoskeleton, Gerastos was well-protected against predators. Its bulbous eyes and semi-circular cephalon (head) are distinctive traits that aided in its navigation and foraging on the seafloor. Highly adaptable, Gerastos species had a broad geographical distribution, with fossil discoveries spanning Europe and North Africa. These fossils not only underscore the evolutionary triumph of trilobites but also shed light on the environmental dynamics of Devonian marine habitats. The photos depict the exact specimen you will receive. Comes boxed and labeled.
