If you can't find this in a database, try entering CHIEF COMMANDER EBENEZER OBEY...on OBEY Records...this is just a slice of time out of this man's astonishing career. He wrote, produced, sang, and ran the record company as well, and it's great Afro-funk, Juju music beautifully and casually recorded, then pressed in a small edition with labels that are a little off-center and weirdly imperfect.

For all that he created about 75 albums for his own record label, it's not that easy to come across any particular one of these pressings. Many of them, like this one, were pressed once and when they were sold that was it...he'd already created another album and didn't care about last year's. He recorded this at Decca in Lagos, and his band is tight and relaxed at the same time, and he's in control and free at the same time, and it's like all great music that way.

An artifact, worth holding in the hand, and a soundtrack to a whole history.
