antique Yoruba Nigeria Ibeji Pair Male Twin Figures with cowrie shell loin covers.  These are very old, collected when we lived in Lagos in the 1970s, and they were very old at that time.  These are exceptional ibeji, highly decorated with multiple necklaces of beads and with large numbers of old cowrie shells around the waist as well as iron bracelets on each arm.  They have obviously been handled a great deal, and the heads are highly polished from having the indigo dyes added repeatedly.  These are not the kind often made for sale to tourists--these were made by a family and cherished for a long time.  They are of museum quality, very similar to another pair we donated to the De Young Museum in San Francisco, where they are on display.
