1656 Church History Thomas Fuller Cambridge
KNIGHTS Monks MAPS Heraldry Bible
Thomas Fuller was a 17th-century English historian who
particularly notable for his historical accounts of English worthies and the
Church of England. In 1655, Fuller wrote his best work, ‘Church History of Britain’. This chronological account covers the
history of the church from the birth of Jesus through 1648 and was immensely
popular throughout England and the English-speaking world.
This work, however, was not beloved by everyone. One of its greatest
critics was Peter Heylin who vehemently attacked ‘Church History’. This book includes various sections on church
history including a ‘History of
Waltham-Abbey in Essex’ and a
‘History of the University of Cambridge’.
This 1656 edition includes all of the expected sections and parts as
well as the double-page engravings such as the map of Cambridge and the arms of
the Knights and Monks of William the Conqueror.
