1750 UNUSUAL FOLIO 1ed
Musanti Tabula Chronologica Rome Popes Constantinople
Giovanni Musanti’s “Tabulae
chronologicae” is a rare and rather curious 18th-century history
book. Printed in one of the most bizarre formats, this book is a retelling of
chronological events from the earliest of written history, through the use of
tables, lists. and charts. It includes the lives of important Roman Caesars,
famous popes, notable wars, ecclesiastical councils, and so much more. It is,
however, the shape of this book that is the appeal.
This book is a double-tall book where the leaves are uncut on the top
and bottom edges forming a view of four pages of text with every other leaf
being blank. While the format is bizarre, the pages themselves are quite fine
each with decorative floral borders. It is unlikely that another book will be
found in such an unusual folio arrangement.
