This week we are offering Joanies “Great Estates” multi-week spring estate auction sales. This group of auctions features an amazing array of fresh to market hand picked treasures. We have saved up a great array of choice examples from important estate collections. The main portion of the collection came for a prominent Le Chateau Montreal family collection we have been offering over the past months. The family has now asked us to clear out their parents (packed full) Laurentian’s chalet. The vast majority of items were acquired by the parents 40-70 years ago, with many others being earlier family heirlooms. The family has indicated their parents were good friends of Alex Gurie of the famed Gurie Gallery, Montreal, and that many of the Asian arts examples were acquired from Gurie during the 1960 to 70s. This is surely one of the most impressive and large estates we have dealt with in over 20 years of offering estate items here on eBay. The vases are very unique examples that have a black glaze design, possibly meant to imitate early patinated bronze. We have personally never seen this black glaze design on vases like this in upwards of 30 years searching for such treasures, leading us to believe the vases are rare examples. The vases have interesting carved designs with two large dragon figural panels and Buddhist precious object features surrounding the vases. The vases also have dragon figural handles with loose side rings. The vases are finely and thinly potted with incised Qianlong base seal marks. We forgot to photo the rosewood display stands with the vases, seen in the last image that will be included with the pair.

As seen, the vases have good provenance and came from the estate with their original purchase receipt from Luen Cai Curios Store, Hong Kong, dated 1968. We believe the invoices date the vases as Tao-Kwang (Daoguang) period, c1821-50. This very interesting and rare pair of porcelain vases are being offered Without Reserve!

Condition: Estate-fresh, minor chip to one rim as seen in the images. The vases are otherwise in substantially fine condition with no cracks, or repairs. UV light reveals no hidden damage.

Size: The vases measure 11 1/2 inches tall x 7 inches wide, and 12 1/2 inches tall including the stands.
