Arthur Jules Mayeur; 1871-1919; A talented French artist of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Arthur Mayeur studied under both Jacquet and Bonnat at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1909 Mayeur was honoured with the Chevalier de la Legion d'honneur. Mayeur was best known for his original etchings, drypoints and watercolours.
This very atmospheric etching is bright and unfaded in dark brown ink, the image measuring 8 cms. x 12 cms. (3 x 4¾ ins.) on a medium wove paper sheet size measuring 9 cms. x 14 cms. (3½ x 5½ ins.) with deckle edges.
Unframed and unmounted, the condition of the image and sheet is good, the sheet has tape remnants to the top edge verso and handling marks condusive with age.
