Web of Spider-Man #1, released in April 1985, features two main stories:

"'Til Death Do Us Part!" by Louise Simonson and Greg LaRocque: This story centers on the black symbiote suit that Spider-Man recently acquired in Secret Wars #8 (1984). The alien costume tries to bond permanently with Peter Parker, taking control of his mind and body. As Spider-Man struggles to resist, a new group of villains called the Vulturions emerge, thanks to information gleaned from the Vulture. Spider-Man eventually discovers the symbiote's weakness to loud noises and manages to break free from its influence with the help of a church bell. However, weakened and unconscious, he's left vulnerable until the symbiote, with a strange sense of self-preservation, shields him from harm before disappearing.

"Nothing to Fear" by Stefan Petrucha, Len Kaminski, Tom Morgan, and Mike Esposito: This is a flashback story featuring a younger Peter Parker confronting a conflict between two criminal brothers. It serves as the first of a series of such tales planned for the Web of Spider-Man title.

This first issue of Web of Spider-Man is notable for its exploration of the black costume's influence on Peter Parker, laying the groundwork for its eventual transformation into the villain Venom.
