Beautiful large piqué-a-jour butterfly pendant encased in a sterling silver framework and enhanced with marcasite.

Piqué-a-jour is a technique where translucent enamel is applied to a framework which has the result of looking like stained glass. This must be done by hand and is a somewhat painstaking process.

The pendant has a snap clasp on the reverse which is in good working order. The size of the snap closure provides versatility for the type of necklace the pendant can be used with. There are four colors in the enamel, blue, green, yellow and orange.  The pendant could be worn as a necklace, used in a window or even as an extra fancy Christmas tree ornament.  (I personally do this with larger vintage pieces, and it looks great.)  I have shown in the last two pictures what the pendant looks like in ambient light and direct lighting situations.

Condition:

The pendant is in excellent condition with no flaws other than a slight bit of tarnish.  All of the marcasite is present and there are no breaks in the enamel.
