Weimar Porzellan has existed unchanged since 1790.
As early as 1780, Christian Andreas Wilhelm Speck found that the earth and rocks found here could be used to produce "good porcelain and earthenware". In 1790, after Count Friederich von Hatzfeld had granted the concession to produce porcelain in Vienna, the manufacturer Christian Andreas Wilhelm Speck laid the foundation for the Thuringian manufactory, which also felt close ties to the city of Weimar in the years that followed. The value of branded porcelain was recognized early on, as the first successes at the Leipzig Trade Fair were recorded as early as 1797.
The coat of arms of the Thuringian dukes, the Saxon lozenge shield, has long been known around the world as a ground mark. For more than 200 years now, almost from the beginning, this coat of arms has been proof of the origin of the high-quality and beautiful work by Weimar Porzellan. Because even in the early 19th century, a festively set table was valued because it is an ornament and a sign of cultivated prosperity.
