I am selling one of my more interesting bikes, mainly because I cannot ride it any more, the backs not up to it!
I think the bike was built in the 90s and was laid up unused for 30+ years. When I bought it the new pipes were covered in surface rust.
The Bike has a V5 and matching numbers, its based on an Ariel 650, but has had BSA A10/A7 parts built into the engine, and Norton and BSA parts to the frame/wheels.
In detail the engine was rebuilt with a BSA one piece crank & rods, which has been reground with new shells, and I think new mains were fitted. The cam is a BSA road Rocket, the barrel is Ariel which has been re-bored to +20 from memory and new flat top pistons. The cylinder head is A7 with the detachable inlet manifold, it's an easy mod to convert to twin carbs, a rare cylinder head. The Head has been gas flowed. Carb is a Mk1 Concentric.
Mag is Lucas & has V good Spark, Dyno Lucas works fine.
Primary drive, gearbox is all Ariel. New final drive chain has been fitted.
The forks are Norton short roadholders, with a 19" Norton front wheel. The rim maybe Dunlop, I have another rim which I took off a Triton Race bike I owned with the identical rim, but it does not have any markings on. The rear wheel is a quick detachable BSA with an 18" Borrani rim fitted with a new tyre.
New rear shocks fitted.
Oil tank is Ariel, tool box & seat are home made. Alloy mudguards.
There are still a few jobs to do on the bike, it needs a return spring fitted to the prop stand, then when left standing the engine wet sumps, and if I was going to keep the bike I think I would fit a tap/ none return valve on the oil feed. Will require a new speedo, one fitted works but is damaged.
I have a few spares that I will include, these are timing cases, a complete gearbox, and a few gaskets.
I have ridden the bike once and it does go very well, I have a 69 T120 and its as quick.
Sold with no reserve as I need the space having moved into a smaller garage.
I am looking for a 1948 Norton ES2 ( marked C4 on crank cases) motor to complete a bike, does anybody have a spare Motor?
