RARE DAVID MARSHALL BRUTALLIST MANTLE CLOCK
From research made from cast Aluminium & Bronze/Brass
Corrugated cast aluminium outer frame , with square bronze/brass Clock face
currently unpolished , may look better polished but why lose the patina built up over probably 40 or 50 years !
Quartz movement - takes 1x AA battery (not included)
Clock tested and working , and assumed to be the original movement
size
11" wide , 7.75" tall , depth approx 2"
signature/stamp inprint cast into the aluminium frame
Nice item , great talking point
quite crudely made with imperfections in the casting
near impossible to find another the same - hence why some of his work sells for a great deal of money .
Condition
Good - unpolished - minor marks
second hand slightly bent but near unnoticeable
strangely sits better upside down (based on which way the logo faces) !
The correct way up is slightly uneven to base so can rock a small amount
Artist David Marshall (b. 1943),is Famed for his brutallist style clocks of cast bronze and cast aluminum, sculpture, jewelry, silverware and other accessories.
This clock we believe was made between circa 1970 & 1980
Marshall settled in Spain in the mid-1960s, opening a workshop in Malaga in 1969 .He relocated to Colorado in 2007, where he currently resides. His work has a powerful abstract visual presence, augmented by the combination of materials with their contrasting polished and textured surfaces. An exceptionally fine example of his work.
