1965 Press Photo Electric generator arrives at Florida Power Crystal River plant

This is an original press photo. A 275-ton electric power giant -- weighing more than twenty-seven 45-passenger city buses -- arrived in June 1965 at the construction site of Florida Power Corporation's Crystal River plant. The 550,000-pound generator, built by General Electric Company in Schenectady, New York, is approximately 30 feet long and 13 feet in diameter. It was shipped on specially-equipped, 16-wheel railroad flatcar from Schenectady on May 12 and delivered to the plant site 22 days later; the heavily-loaded car traveled no faster than 25 mph enroute. Photo measures 8 x 10inches. Photo is dated 6--1965.
