This is a porcelain figurine of a lady seated in a burgundy high backed chair holding a fan. Her skirts are a lovely intricate porcelain lace.

It is marked on the bottom with a green crown and "Frankenthal." In red is written "Made in Germany" and Handgermalt Dresden Art." This was the mark used between 1951 and 1964. Other numbers you can see are 30 in green ink and 88  524 incised in the porcelain.

Condition is good but there is damage to the skirts in multiple places, as is common with these pieces. I took photos of everything that is damaged. Other than that, all fingers intact, no obvious repairs, no damage to paint, no scrapes. Measures almost 3 3/4" in height and 3" back of chair to front of skirts.

This is when they decide what image of “successful adulthood” they want to portray to their friends and family. Often the bride had more control over these choices—but so much less control about most everything else. Women are still fighting for control over their lives, bodies, education, and destiny.

It may seem odd to look backwards at dishes and bowls from the 1920’s-1970’s to be inspired about women’s rights but I am aware on a daily basis that any opportunity or privilege I have today was made possible by women who came before me—intelligent women like my mother who may have not been legally able to have her own checking account or attend certain universities, but still took action to shape a better future.
