This solid wood model of the USS Charleston (C-2) is one of several WW1 era wood folk art battleships built by a man in the 1940s . They were obtained from a now defunct west coast maritime museum in 2001 . This model is marked Charleston on the underside . It measures about 27” long 4-1/2” wide and 9” high. There are some minor flaws and a few small pieces missing. Please see photos for description. You just do not see American maritime folk art models from the 1940s with this amazing subject matter. Thanks for looking

The second USS Charleston (C-2) was a United States Navy protected cruiser — the fourth US protected cruiser to be built. Lacking experience in building steel cruisers, the design was purchased from the British company Armstrong, Mitchell and Co. of Newcastle, the construction to be by an American shipyard. In design, she succeeded the "ABC" cruisers Atlanta, Boston, and Chicago with better protection, higher speed, and similar armament.[1][2]
