Spilanthes is an herbaceous plant that belongs to the daisy family. It is recognized in traditional medicine throughout Asia and South America for a variety of properties including anti-inflammatory, diuretic, and aphrodisiac effects. The leaves are used as food sources. The flowers of Spilanthes have earned it the name “toothache plant” for their numbing and pain-relieving effects. I have chewed the leaves myself and definitely felt a tingling effect!

Spilanthes has also been noted to stimulate taste and improve saliva flow. Therefore, it could help side effects from cancer treatments such as dry mouth, mouth sores and inflammation, but more human research is needed to be sure.
The plant photographed may not be the exact plant you receive, but the size and quality will be comparable. Each plant comes in a 3" or larger pot.
Care:
- Requires full sun outdoors (8+ hours per day) after the danger of frost has passed
- As a tropical plant, prefers warm temperatures and high humidity
- Grows 12-15" tall and 12 - 20" wide
- Prefers a well-drained, loose, loamy soil
- Consistently water, but avoid soggy soil
- Can be planted in pots or in the ground
- Is an annual plant in most areas of the US, but can be perennial in zones 9-11
- Fertilize or mix in compost for best results
