The only listings I could find for this title describe it as nonfiction, but it reads like short stories, the last chapter, for instance, has long paragraphs of the characters' thoughts, a last minute rescue, and a German spy removed by a giant octopus.  The publication year 1944 is from other listings; the book itself does not give publisher, place of publication, or date.  Dates of events range from 1930 to 1941.
