This listing is for an Antique 1849 Patent Pending John Allender Counterfeit Gold Coin Scale with a Replica Counterweight. The scale is Ca.1849 and guaranteed original.

In 1849 John Allender manufactured a scale that would test U.S. Gold coins to make sure they weren’t counterfeit or shaved off (a reduced gold weight). By test either a $1.00 gold piece, a $2.50 gold piece or a $5.00 gold piece, you must first pace the corresponding gold coin in the proper “Gague” to see if it passes through. Then you place the corresponding gold piece in the proper pan, if the correct weight the scale will balance. If you wish to test a $20.00 or $10.00 gold piece with a John Allender Scale, you must have the counterweight in order to weigh it properly. The counterweight is placed in the pan for the $1.00 area. The counterweight is most often missing. The gold coin must be small enough to slide through the gauge, (the slot in the scale) but heavy enough to tip the balance. This counterweight is a remanufactured close replica in size weight and appearance to an original that I own. They are very hard to come by.

THE $20.00  AND THE $5.00 GOLD COINS “DO NOT” COME WITH THE SCALE!

They are for reference only.

THE COUNTERWEIGHT DOES COME WITH THE SCALE!!!
