Vintage postcard view of the M.V. Westerdam a cargo-passenger ship of the Holland America Line built for Trans-Atlantic service. The Westerdam was under construction in Rotterdam when the Second World War erupted, she was floated and placed in lay-up before being sunk during an Allied air-raid in August of 1940. The Germans then seized the ship, raised her and aimed to complete the ship but the Dutch Resistance sank her once again in September 1944. After the end of the war the still unfinished Westerdam was once again refloated, refitted and finally completed in time for her maiden voyage from Rotterdam to New York in June of 1946. The ship was scrapped in 1965 after 18 years of service.

Condition; Good. Does not have the usual high gloss appearance of a chrome postcard. Clean and bright.
