Air Commodore F.M.F.West VC,was one of many who saw Richthofen crash

. He was returning to his base at Vignacourt ( North of Amiens) in an Armstrong Whitworth FK8 having picked up a pilot of his squadron, who had forced landed near Corbie. They then witnessed the last stages of the air battle and saw a red Fokker DR1 go down and crash on the Morlaincourt Ridge. Later West landed about 2000 yards from the Wreckage and with difficulty walked to the wrecked triplane. He was greeted by the Australian soldiers who told him that the pilot was Baron Von Richthofen, and that he was dead. Certified Copy no 0995 of 1300.  Photo's & Details
