Jadeite Cage Hook Pendant Featuring Bird and Auspicious Symbols, Late 19th Century
14cm length, 11mm thickness
This unusual item was carved from a slightly translucent piece of jadeite, with colors ranging from pale green and lavender to bright green. The carving features a bird with down-turned wings at the top, holding three pieces of ling-chih fungus in its curved beak. The exterior portion of the hook below the bird is relief carved with numerous ling-chih fungus, fruits, vines, Chinese coins, and a ch'ih dragon near the blunt tip at the bottom.
