The Amazing Spider-Man #306, released in October 1988, features a main story titled "Humbugged!" by writer David Michelinie and artist Todd McFarlane.

In the story, the insect-obsessed villain Humbug returns to ESU campus to continue his research.  Spider-Man confronts him and a battle ensues.  Meanwhile, Peter Parker's neighbor, Jonathan Caesar, starts acting strangely around Peter and Mary Jane. The issue also features cameo appearances by the Chameleon, Aunt May, and the Black Cat.

The cover art by McFarlane is an homage to the cover of Action Comics #1, the first Superman comic book.
