THIS PIECE WAS FOUND IN A LEGIT CASTLE IN SARDINIA ITALY ALONG WITH OTHER PIECES BEING OFFERED THIS WEEK.
DATING TO THE 1890’S
TWO PIECE IN CONSTRUCTION
FASHIONED OF A BEAUTIFUL COBALT BLUE SILK SATIN. THE BODICE SNAPS CLOSED IN THE FRONT WITH A BAND COLLAR AT THE TOP.
SLEEVES FALL LONG AND THERE IS ATTACHED BELTING ON EACH SIDE TO GATHER THE FRONT IN. INTERIOR BACK ONLY IS LINED.
THE SKIRT IS IN MATCHING FABRIC, POCKET HIDDEN AT THE SIDE WITH METALLIC GOLD LAME AND SILK FLOSS BRAIDING TRIMMING THE DOUBLE RUFFLED BOTTOM AS WELL AS THE WAISTLINE. THE INTERIOR OF THE SKIRT IS UNLINED.
CONDITION: IN STRONG WEARABLE CONDITION AND THE FLAWS DO NOT SHOW FOR THE MOST PART WHEN WORN OR DISPLAYED.
THERE ARE THREE ERASER SIZED HOLES IN THE TOP WITH TWO SMALL HOLES ON THE TOP RIGHT SHOULDER. THE BOTTOM SLEEVES HAVE A SERIES OF PINHEAD HOLES ON THE UNDER SIDE WITH SOME SCATTERED HOLES ON THE CUFF AREA AND IF TRIM WAS ADDED TO THE CUFFS AND THE TOP, ALL OF THE DAMAGE ON THE TOP WOULD BE HIDDEN.
THE SKIRT HAS A PRISTINE APPEARANCE BUT NOTE WHEN HELD TO LIGHT THAT PINHEAD HOLES ARE SEEN THROUGH THE CENTER FRONT AND REAR LEFT SIDE, NONE OF WHICH READILY SHOW. I PERSONALLY WOULD CONSIDER COMPOSING AN OVER SKIRT TO FULLY HIDE THE FLAWS.
A GREAT DRESS FOR THE FABRIC ALONE. SUCH A BEAUTIFUL COBALT BLUE COLOR.
