Here we have a very rare Wedgwood (?), yellow cane ware Grouse, Duck and Game pie dish, ( but bearing no Wedgwood stamp on base).  Circa mid. 1800's.    This Grouse-handled game dish is a very fine piece of yellow ware. The molded detail on the base and lid is just exceptional. The lid has a Grouse as the prominent component to the handle, which lays across possibly a Quail, then a Duck, and finally a Rabbit, these are in turn laying across a plentiful bed of Ferns.  Two venting holes in the lid.  Around the side of the game dish are braces of Woodcock and Grouse hanging from branches amongst the many fronds of Ferns.  The inner liner is the sole component that is fully glazed.  The piece, measuring 11 1/2" long, and 6 1/2" high, is just breathtaking, and apart from needing a little cleaning, (I see a small drip of melted candle wax on the rim too), it seems to be in perfect condition, with no cracks or chips on any of the three components.  This Wedgwood piece with the Grouse handle is rarely found, much less in mint condition, and as such will be very much sought after.  This is an outstanding piece of yellow ware.
