Set of 60 American Colony Photographers Magic Lantern Slides of Holy Lands, 1910s-1940s. Slides are housed in the original wooden shipping box, marked on the side Vester & Company, The American Colony Stores, Jerusalem, Palestine. Box is missing lid. Paper sleeves for the slides are included, though they are in poor condition & the slides are not cushioned with tissue paper.
Each glass slide is approx 4" x 3.25", wrapped along the edge with a black tape. Some slides have numbers on the edge of the reverse side, but each has printed on the front "American Colony Photographers" on the left of the image, and "Jerusalem, Palestine" to the right. In addition, each slide has a handwritten notation of white paper taped along the top edge, denoting the number and subject of the slide.
Slides are in great condition, with no obvious scratches or damage.
In light of the current situation in Israel, and the fact these photographs were taken before Israel existed, the historical significance can't be overstated.
