French Rococo Ormolu Gilt Mantel Clock
Hand Applied Roman Numeral Porcelain Dial with Brass Key,
circa 1840's.
We are delighted to offer this fabulous antique mid 19th century period French ormolu mantel clock. Cast gilt Rococo style case with stepped pediment & urn embellishment finial above an enclosed dome glazed dial. Hand applied overglaze Roman numerals to a white porcelain clock face. Central gilt medallion to dial with lion head decorated details. Lion & putti head motif below the dial & flowing fruit & fleur-de-lis scroll feet & decoration. This clock comes directly from a recent estate sale & is sold in superb as found antique condition. It has it's brass wind key but No pendulum, nicely strikes a chime on the half & the hour when hands are moved. The front dial door & back door hinges & catches both function well. It is sold with no working guarantees given or implied. Overall in fabulous display condition but with a good service & some known how I'm sure it would be up & running again. A stunning clock with superb age related surface patination & verdigris spotting. It would make for a wonderful addition to serious clock collection or suit a Horologist. It displays very nicely indeed & it's style & design would date this piece nicely to around circa 1840's.
Would make for a stunning interior mantel piece . . .
