This week we are offering Joanies “Great Estates” multi-week spring estate auction sales. This group of auctions feature an amazing array of fresh to market hand picked treasures. The sales will span over the next few weeks starting with three days of Asian arts, followed by fine estate jewelry and many other interesting treasures!

This great collection came form a prominent Le Chateau Montreal family collection we have been offering over the past months. The vast majority of items were acquired by the parents 40-60 years ago, with many others being earlier family heirlooms. The family has indicated their parents were good friends of Alex Gurie of the famed Gurie Gallery, Montreal, and that many of the Asian arts examples were acquired from Gurie during the 1960 to 70s. This is surely one of the most impressive estate collections we have dealt with in over 20 years of offering items here on eBay. The bowl is a very fine and interesting example that dates from the Edo period, 17th century. We are told this bowl is an extremely rare find. The bowl is also a large size with a unique Japanese flared rim form. The interior is intricately hand painted with a fu lion beast and other interesting designs. The bowl is superbly and thinly potted throughout of highly translucent pure white porcelain.

As seen, the bowl is being offered as is for study or repair. But we believe for its extreme rarity the bowl should still be a desirable find for the more scholarly collector. Some of the cracks are filled with Japanese gold lacquer, which is an early traditional and respectful technique that was used. We are told if this bowl has in good condition a reasonable auction estimate would be in the 8000-12,000GPB price range. So although we would consider this bowl a “study example” for the right price is still an amazing example to acquire and study. This bowl is being offered with Absolutely No Reserve!
