This week we are offering Joanies “Great Estates” multi-week spring estate auction sales. This group of auctions feature an amazing array of fresh to market hand picked treasures. The sales will span over the next few weeks starting with three days of Asian arts, followed by fine estate jewelry and many other interesting treasures!

This great collection came form a prominent Le Chateau Montreal family collection we have been offering over the past months. The vast majority of items were acquired by the parents 40-60 years ago, with many others being earlier family heirlooms. The family has indicated their parents were good friends of Alex Gurie of the famed Gurie Gallery, Montreal, and that many of the Asian arts examples were acquired from Gurie during the 1960 to 70s. This is surely one of the most impressive estate collections we have dealt with in over 20 years of offering items here on eBay. We believe this vinaigrette is a unique and rare find. The vinaigrette is very finely constructed throughout. One would usually assume an example like this would have been produced during the c1900-1940’s period when such novelty examples were most popular. As seen, this vinaigrette is hallmarked for London sterling silver the year 1872, and has the maker’s mark for Henry William Dee. We believe this vinaigrette dating to an earlier Victorian period makes the example a more unique find.

The vinaigrette has a unique lucky horseshoe form. The interior is finely gilt. The interior vinaigrette grill is finely pierced and decorated. The box and grill have matching hallmarks. As seen, someone, at some post has placed a coin in the vinaigrette’s interior, maybe a lucky coin! The coin is loose but we could not get it to come out so we would rather leave it up to the new owner to decide if they want to have the coin removed. This very unique example is being offered Without Reserve!

Condition: Estate-fresh, minor rubbing to the gilt interior. May benefit from further cleaning if desired. The vinaigrette is in overall very good condition considering its age with no dents, damage, or repairs. The box closes perfectly tight with strong quality hinges.

Size: The vinaigrette measures 7/8s of an inch wide x 1 inch long, and 1 3/8 inches long including the top ring x 3/8s of an inch thick. The vinaigrette including the coin weighs 24.4 grams.
