Selling here is John Gay's 'The Beggar's Opera....', printed in London, 1771. Engraved throughout with the overture in score and the music to each song.

8vo, bound in 19th century calf backed marbled paper covered boards, upper board detached, spine with four raised bands. Plain endpapers period with the binding, previous owners armorial bookplate to pastedown.

The book measures 12cm by 19.5cm.

The contents are lacking the frontispiece, otherwise complete. Meeting collation: 3-94pp, with engraved vignette to titlepage, musical scores throughout and decorative woodcut head and tailpieces.

Condition: Front board detached and lower hinge cracked, spine ends chipped and corners bumped, external wear as seen in images. Textblock is holding, though final leaf pulling with lower board, having adhesion at inner margin to opposing fly leaf on verso. Corners are a bit rounded, general age toning, scattered minor spots and marks, some damp staining round lower quarters, title with a few small ink flecks and some pencil workings to verso.
