In August 1874, HMS Challenger took a dredging from 155 fathoms off Raine Island, Queensland, Australia. The sample formed part of the J. T. Norman bequest, he being a famous Victorian mounter.

The sample is a general strew mounted in Canada Balsam on a 1.5" x 3" slide and is rich in foraminifera of many different species. There are also a few radiolaria in the sample.
