This beautiful silver coin is new issue in “Great Greek Mythology” series, featuring an incarnation of the Greek creature, in which the wild inhabitants of the mountains and the restless spirits of the forests were combined in a half-man, half-horse being located in between the rocky mountains of Thessaly and Arcadia.
Many myths and legends describe that gods and goddesses act as overseers and are responsible for maintaining sanity and order among people. A centaur, occasionally hippocentaur, also called Ixionidae, is a creature from Greek mythology with the upper body of a human and the lower body and legs of a horse that was said to live in the mountains of Thessaly. In one version of the myth, the centaurs were named after Centaurus, and, through his brother Lapithes, were kin to the legendary tribe of the Lapiths. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
