Fine, Late 19th Century Silver-Mounted Loupe / Magnifying Glass.
Beautifully crafted in a style that combines Aesthetic Movement & Art Nouveau elements which
suggest it dates to the very late 19th century. The handle has a lovely lozenge design
on the handle which morphs to foliage towards the glass and finally
a cast rose motif where the handle and lens join.
Such attention to its decorative elements and the presence of a hanging loop suggest the glass
was intended to be seen - hanging from a chatelaine or chain. Probably French, it
is stamped '925' - so Sterling grade silver.
It is in excellent condition, with the silver in good order and the glass clear
and unscratched, though a little dirty around the edges.
Both pretty and practical. The lens is surprisingly strong and magnifies magnificently!
