FOREWORD

This issue consists of the papers presented for the Proceedings of the International
Conference on Mathematical Modelling and Applied Mathematics which was held on
June 18-23, 1990 in Moscow, USSR.
Many complex problems of social life put forward new demands for science and
technology. It is quite obvious that further progress is impossible without methodologi-
cal renovation of science. Mathematical modelling and computational experiment make
the basis for such renewal. It lies in spreading the experience, ideas and methods of
applied mathematics to new spheres. The main purpose of the Conference was to bring
together the scientists in applied mathematics and computational experiment, develop-
ers and users of mathematical models from different branches of knowledge in order to
exchange ideas, information and experience. It will be useful for a deeper understanding
of contemporary interdisciplinary problems.
I congratulate and thank all the authors who have presented their results at the
Conference and particularly to these Proceedings.
I sincerely thank all the members of the Program and Organizing Committees
for their support and hard work.
I wish to express my appreciation for the sponsoring organizations whose support
has brought success to the Conference.
