Museum Italian 4/4 Violin labeled Brand
"Bernardus Calcanius" of Genoa, Year 1740, is an extraordinary
instrument with a rich history and exquisite workmanship.
It bears the name of the renowned Calcanius
school and testifies to the skill and artistic ability of its builder, the
Genoese luthier Bernardus Calcanius, active between 1710 and 1750 in Italy,
considered the best luthier of the Genoese school and probably received his
training by the Tyrolean builder Martinus Heel, who settled in Genoa around
1700.
Carefully selected spruce and maple
tonewoods, combined with the manufacturer's expert craftsmanship, contribute to
the instrument's exceptional qualities.
The top, made of two pieces of medium to
narrow grain spruce, and the back, sides and scroll, made of quarter-sawn maple
with narrow, irregular flames.
The orange-brown finish gives the violin
an exceptional and unique look.
In good condition with signs of ageing, it
is in good condition for its years.
Consisting of 1 violin, original
contemporary case, 2 bows and 1 embroidered lining.
