The policy of Ukraine in the past years did not emphasize the need to increase the military potential. The first qualitative changes in the Ukrainian army began to take place in 2014, which made it possible to move away from outdated Soviet standards.

It should be noted that during the entire period of independence, Ukraine maintained a fairly large number of defense industry enterprises. Each of them had quite good developments, but it was not always possible to implement them. Some projects were also reflected on the pages of philately.

As part of Ukrposhta's cooperation with Ukroboronprom, a series of stamps featuring Ukrainian military equipment was developed, with a circulation of up to 140,000 copies:

·          2016 – Oplot BM tank, Dozor armored personnel carrier, Hetman Sahaidachny frigate;

·          2017 – Bucephal BTR-4 armored personnel carrier and AN-178 aircraft;

·          2020 – the BM-21 rocket launcher system of UM "Berest" and the BTR-4MV1 armored personnel carrier.

Other military-themed stamps issued during the period of Ukraine's independence are dedicated to personalities or issued on the occasion of the anniversary of a significant event. There was also the issue of stamps on the ship theme.
