This is a friendship quilt, signed by many friends, with only one block having the year embroidered in it for posterity; that block was singed by Pansy Werremeyer: we believe this person lived in Terre Haute, Indiana, when the 1940 Census was taken, so it is likely she was there in 1937 as well.

Unfortunately, only one other person in the quilt we were able to place on Indiana at the moment of the census, although we didn't check all the names.

The friends seem to have been living in states relatively (very "relatively") close to Indiana, like Ohio or Iowa, but we truly can't say for sure the quilt was made in Indiana.

That will be left to determine by the next owners.

At any rate, it is a well used item: we counted 27 damaged swatches (we posted a couple of examples) most of them belonging to one specific fabric, and the binding has frayed all around. We found no holes or rip, or stains. It has no odors.

The fabrics are feed sacks; several have novelty, or juvenile, prints. The piecing and quilting were done by hand.

We quilt measures 86" square and weighs 3 3/4 lb. unboxed (it is a thin quilt); the bed in the pics is a queen, 80" by 60".

We combine shipping.

Please notice that there is a typo in the title: the quilt is from 1937, as seen on pic # 2 and mentioned in the description, obviously NOT from 1939. We apologize for whatever confusion this error could have caused.
